Kashmir To Andaman- Meet the 7 Women Wonders Of UPSC 2012

Syed Sehrish Asgar

State: Jammu & Kashmir

Dr. Shehrish Asghar brought glory to the Jammu& Kashmir by being the second Muslim lady IAS qualifier from the state. This 25 year old girl belongs to the militancy hit remote Kishtwar district of J&K.

She gives all the credit to her family who supported her to secure the 118th rank in All India Civil Services Examination. She had earlier cleared the Kashmir Administrative Services Examination in 2009 in which she was not able to fulfill the eligibility criteria as she had not completed her medical graduation.

“After topping CSE my dream was to serve people from a higher platform. My hard work and proper planning helped me a lot to realize this dream,” she said in an interview to Greater Kashmir.
Sehrish, with her victory has given a strong message to all her fellow women of the state for working hard to realize their dreams. “Nothing is impossible. Work hard, success will touch your feet. You just need proper guidance and planning to crack the civil services examination,” she said. “More girls should go for such examinations instead of hankering after careers in medicine and teaching,” she added.
