The report of ‘Karnataka, like Gujarat, lags in social parameters’ was analyzed by TOI which came to the same conclusion as Rajan’s, based on Karnataka's social and economic parameters.

The report concluded that Karnataka holds 23.6 percent of people who are below poverty line. The statistics hence places Karnataka at the 20th spot among 32 states and union territories which are ranked in order of increasing poverty ratios.

The average expenditure in Karnataka’s rural areas is lower when compared to the all-India average.

The infant mortality rate of this South Indian state per 1,000 live births stood at 35 in 2011. Hence the state is placed on the 19th slot among 35 states and union territories ranked in order of increasing mortality rates.
