NEW DELHI: Five big Italian design schools are in India to scout for talent and to send their students on exchange.

The schools are signing an agreement with Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID) under which two faculty members and students would travel between the institutes.

"There is great potential for exchange between the countries," said Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath said.

"We see India has a design powerhouse of the future."

The Italian institutes participating in the program are the Instituto Europeo di Design and the Politecnico (both from Milan), Instituto Europeo di Design from Turin, the University "La Sapienza" from Rome and University of Palermo.
