Bangalore: "As 15 billion embedded devices will be connected to the internet in the next five years, there is a need for scalable and flexible infrastructure to systematically handle the bundle of data and devices," said Ravichandran R, Director-sales, Intel, South Asia. To meet this need, the processor manufacturer Intel introduced 17 new enterprise-class processors, led by the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series.

The new Intel chips can automatically adjust to specified energy usage levels, and speed data center transaction and customer database queries. The Intel Xeon processor 5500 series, previously codenamed 'Nehalem-EP' offers several technologies that radically improve system speed and versatility. "Microprocessors are playing fundamental role in the transformation of IT sector and using Intel's new series of processors will enable businesses to save cost by over fifty percent," claimed Ravichandran.

Ravichandran further added that the new chips showcase groundbreaking advances in performance, virtualization and workload management, which will create opportunities to solve the world's most complex challenges and push the limits of science and technology.

The Intel Xeon processor 5500 offers automated energy efficiency enhancements, providing users with greater control of their energy expenditure. This includes a processor idle power level of only 10 watts, enabling a 50 percent reduction in system idle power compared to the previous generation.

Moreover, the Xeon 5500 series contains several breakthrough capabilities that will alter the technology landscape. Performance gains in the Intel 2-socket server generation are greater than for any Xeon processor Intel has ever delivered-a 70 to125 percent higher performance across a range of workloads when compared to systems based on the Xeon 5400 series.
