Insilica bets on mobile technology

Bangalore: Mobile phone cameras will soon be embedded with image stabilization or anti-blurring software to produce quality images. Insilica Semiconductors has cranked up this algorithm at their Bangalore Development Center. “Most mobile phones have cameras with 1-2 pixels and hence even a minor shake can blur and displace the image taken from it,” says K.S. Raghunathan, Head-India Design Centre, Insilica. To deblur the static image, the blueprint inside the mobile phone camera would superimpose the image taken and create the new image, thereby removing the blur. The center is in talks with their Slovenian counterparts to advance this new technology. Once the mapping is done, the India design center will be responsible for every aspect of development --- from RTL to GDS2, besides verification, synthesis, DFT and testing before it is embedded into a chip, Raghunathan. The Bangalore center is also working on another technology, the Video Codex, where the company is planning to turn mobile phones into live camera that can broadcast video real-time across the world with the help of Internet. Explaining the feature of the video codex technology, he said, “With the new device in place, mobile phone cameras could be used for video conferencing facility. To avoid cumbersome processes like connecting to the Internet and attaching a web cam, one can just attach a Bluetooth or handsfree device to his/her mobile phone and start conversing.” Raghunathan says the next step would be to use it in other devices like video camera and home appliances that can be connected to Internet.
