Infrastructure growth slows to 5.7%

NEW DELHI: With a 16.1 percent drop in crude oil production, IndiaÂ’s infrastructure growth slowed to 5.7 percent during August compared to 6.3 percent decline in the same month previous year. However a solid double-digit growth in cement and coal sectors and 7 percent growth in electricity and steel production increased the overall growth in the six core sectors to rebound from a near zero growth in July 2005. Cumulative growth in the infrastructure sector during April-August 2005-06 also declined to 5.1 percent as against 6.5 percent during the same period last fiscal.
