Info Edge to Invest 20 Crore in Applect

New Delhi: NewDelhi-based Applect Learning Systems that provides custom content development services to corporates, has raised 20 crore from Info Edge. The investment will be made through a mix of equity and convertible preference shares in the company. Info Edge has acquired 40 percent stake in MeritNation, an e-learning website from Applect that provides courseware to students from classes 3rd to 12th in various subjects, for Rs6.5 crore. It has also invested another 5 crore in the company last year. Applect Learning Systems was founded by Pavan Chauhan and Ritesh Hemrajani, IIM Bombay alumni, and have been in the education content space for more than 12 years. Applect provides custom content development services to corporates with a focus on education in the K-12 segment, which includes development of courseware, assessment items, teaching pieces, simulations and conventional training materials. The current round of funding has brought the total investment in MeritNation to Rs30.5 crore. Info Edge runs four internet businesses - Naukari.com, Jeevansathi.com, 99acres.com and Shiksha.com. Info Edge has ventured into newer businesses & markets, invested in internet start-ups and has attracted investments from leading venture capitalists. Formerly an ICICI Ventures investee company, Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Sherpalo Ventures had invested in the Company.
