Infinera names Utkarsh Rai as MD, India operations

BANGALORE: Infinera, a provider of next generation optical networking products for the telecommunications industry, has appointed Utkarsh Rai as Managing Director of India operations in Bangalore. Rai will be responsible for managing development activities at Infinera India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary. "With 15 years of international experience in the communications industry, Utkarsh's success in leading large scale, multi-location development teams makes him an ideal choice for Infinera's India operations," said Jagdeep Singh, President and CEO of Infinera. "Utkarsh will be instrumental to executing our vision as we continue to staff our development teams with world-class telecommunications and optical engineering talent." Infinera’s multi-million dollar expansion plans in Bangalore began with the opening of its development center in January 2003. The development center will focus on design and implementation of Infinera’s optical networking solutions. Over the next 6 months, Infinera’s development center projects growth in excess of 100%. Rai holds a Masters in Computer Science from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani and a Certification in Business Administration from University of California, Berkeley. In his previous tenure, he served as Operations Manager, Wireless Infrastructure Systems and Test, Motorola India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. He had previously been employed with Adaptec Inc, California, and various organizations within Siemens in Delhi and Germany.
