New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has expressed concern over the collection of statistics bill moved by the government that makes sharing of confidential and price-sensitive business information mandatory. The guidelines (in the bill) should limit the collection to macro level information and exclude confidential information, personal identifiable information, sensitive industry or competitive information, third party information and economic value attached information, CII said in a statement issued Thursday. The government should not outsource the collection of statistical information, being sensitive information, to any agency without prescribing adequate safeguards, the industry body added. The government moved the Collection of Statistics Bill, 2007, during the budget session of the Indian Parliament, to acquire powers to seek various categories of information from private-sector companies. This is meant to replace the Collection of Statistics Act, 2003.
