Industrial output up 9.5% in April

NEW DELHI: Industrial production rose 9.5 percent in April from the same month a year earlier, higher than the previous month due to strong manufacturing, electricity and mining output, data showed on Monday. Output stood at a revised 8.2 percent in March from a year earlier, while it stood at 8.8 percent in February compared to the same month a year earlier. A media survey showed analysts expected industrial output to grow 7.9 percent year-on-year in April from a year earlier. Manufacturing production, which represents more than 75 percent of industrial output, rose 10.4 percent in April from a year earlier, higher than 8.9 percent in March. Consumer durables output was up 10.6 percent from a year earlier while production of capital goods, a key barometer of industrial activity, rose 24.9 percent in April from a year earlier.
