Bangalore: The Pricewaterhouse Coopers and the Data Security Council of India revealed that India's most growing IT/BPO sector faces security threat from the insiders of the company or the employees.

Nearly 50 percent of the service providers participated in the survey revealed that the insiders, not part of the core IT department, were the main culprits.

The survey that was conducted to analyze "The Threat within" was divided into three different phases. The industry survey and inputs comes first, second the analysis of the insider theft cases and third the secondary research - to know whether the environment of Indian services firm are secure or not.

Nine IT/BPO service providers and four client firms were involved in the survey. Nearly 89 percent of the service providers opined that behavioral motivation to break the existing rules was the major drive for insider problems. This view was confronted by 75 percent of the clients participated who were of the opinion that personal financial gain was the primary factor for the insiders that leads them to cause damage within the company or the organization.

Many believe that insiders or employees of organizations copy sensitive information on portable devices like USB drives or PDAs, leaks information through email and even copy the information on paper.
