Indian market lucrative for HP's server business
Bangalore: Heading the business critical servers division in the Indian market, Santanu Ghose is responsible for Hewlett Packard's (HP) thrive in the server business in India. According to IDC report for the first quarter of 2009 (Q1FY09), HP has a market share of 43 percent in the high end server market in India. Ghose anticipates tremendous growth opportunity for HP's server business in India. "There are many segments in India where our business can grow including telecom, banking financial services and insurance (BFSI) and even healthcare, retail and IT/ITES can be the key drivers of growth," says Ghose. On his experience in managing the server business in India, Ghose says, "The main challenges that we face India is to manufacture servers that come at cheaper costs, rugged and available round the clock." HP-UX operating system for servers that completed 25 years since its inception are developed at one of the largest HP Labs located in Bangalore, which is part of the Integrity brand of HP that Ghose handles in India. For the 28th consecutive quarter, the company has been the number one vendor in worldwide server shipments. In the last quarter, one out of every three servers worldwide were shipped by HP and the firm captured 35.7 percent total unit shipment share.
