Fremont: Pennsylvania teen Neha Gupta was among the 10 young volunteers as 2011 national winners of the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program. More than 37,000 youth participated and the winners received a total of $10,000 in scholarships each for post-secondary education. Every year, Kohl's recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) across the country for their amazing contributions to their communities. Since 2001, Kohl's has recognized more than 15,000 kids with over $3 million in scholarships and prizes. The remarkable efforts of the volunteers include fund raising for orphans in Iraq, creating artwork to raise donations and awareness for Autism and bike riding across the country to raise money for children with disabilities. At an early age of 9 years Neha identified the need to raise awareness of the difficulty of orphaned children. It was then she started a non-profit organization, Empower Orphans to help underprivileged children in the U.S. and India gain basic education and become productive members of society. She has developed volunteer groups in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and India to help orphans in India and the United States.
