Indian American sworn in as new secretary of DelDOT
Fremont: Indian American Shailen Bhatt has been sworn in as the new head of Delware Department of Transportation( DelDOT). Governor Jack Markell presided over the ceremony that was held in the DelDOT adminstrartion building in Dover. Present on the event was secretary Bhatt's wife and officials from the Federal Highway Admistration.

Governor Markell nominated secretary Bhatt on 27 May 2011 that was approved by the State Senate on 8 June 2011. Bhatt who holds a degree in economics from Western Kentucky University, is the 9th secretary of DelDOT. He served as Associate Administration for FHWA in Washington D.C. As a secretary Bhatt plans to bring various transportation system stakeholders and stakeholders to work as a team.

At the Federal Highway Administration, Secretary Bhatt played a major role in setting policy and building relationships with members of Congress. He was a leader in FHWA's efforts to attain the reauthorization of federal surface transportation legislation by the Congress, and Federal Highways initiative on accelerated project delivery.
