Indian markets close on the green

Mumbai: India's stock markets responded positively to the world market's optimistic note Monday with shares of oil, gas, metals, power and consumer goods shining. The markets received a further boost from the government's decision to allow trusts to invest in securities, including shares and bonds of listed companies. The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed with gains of 338 points or 1.70 percent at 20,192.52, against the previous close of 19,854.12 points. The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed with a gain of 86 points or 1.43 percent at 6,070.75, against the previous close of 5,985.10 points. The market breadth was strong. Out of 30 blue-chip stocks of Sensex, as many as 24 closed in the green.
