BANGALORE:India's Ministry for Human Resource Development is considering upgrading top technology schools to the level of the Indian Institute of Technology. The technology centers train graduates and doctoral candidates who frequently end up working for top global technology companies. Most graduates work for U.S. technology companies. Currently, India has half a dozen institutes across the country, and the ministry has a short list of seven smaller schools to be upgraded to the status of institutes. The ministry will establish a task force to determine the steps needed to convert the schools to institute status.
