India Needs to 'Walk' One Step Ahead to Stay Fit

53 percent of respondents agreed with the fact that walking brings a decline in their stress level whereas 41 percent of Indians said that walking is yet to improve their levels of blood pressure.

The survey expressed that most Indians could not take up walking due to long office hours which acts as a key barrier. Nearly 18 percent said that there was fear of safety on roads during late hours, and 15 percent expressed lack of walking area in the vicinity.

Manasije Mishra, Chief Executive Officer of Max Bupa Health Insurance said, "Max Bupa Walk for Health Survey is an insight into people's attitude towards walking and shows that regular walking induces positive social and behavioural change among people. It also enhances their productivity and encourages them to lead a healthier lifestyle,” reports Business Standard.

The survey also said that many people are becoming tech-savvy and are using mobile based apps to keep a check on their exercising levels. 50 percent people in Delhi and 49 percent in Bangalore were found to be more tech savvy than people in Mumbai. In general, the younger population between the age group of 25-30 years was found to be more tech-savvy.
