India Among 10 Largest Coffee Consuming Countries


1. India

Consumption of coffee is increasing rapidly not only in urban centers in India but also in semi-urban parts. With some of the known cafeteria like Café Coffee Day and Barista Coffee blooming up in different parts of the country, the drink is becoming popular among teenagers and office workers.  The actual annual consumption of coffee in India is about 85 grams per capita which is tiny when compared to U.S. where the coffee consumption is around 4.1 kilograms, according the International Coffee Organization, an intergovernmental group of coffee importing and exporting countries. However, looking at this rising consumption even some global chains like Starbucks has marked its footprint in Indian and trying to expand its market all over the country.

2. Pakistan

Even in Pakistan the coffee sales have increased by 7 percent in 2011 due to growing urban population and changing preferences of tea over coffee among the youth.  Even if in some parts there are people who prefer tea over coffee but currently the preference of coffee is more due to increasing social value of coffee. As a result you can see more number of coffee shops blooming up in the large cities when compared to tea stalls, which shows the preference of coffee over tea more prominently.
