Bangalore: Winter is setting in and it's that time of the year when sniffle, cough and sneeze is noticed. And it's also that time of the year when all people can talk about is boosting their immune systems. From cold to allergies, there's no better time than now to talk about myths related to immune boosting than now. Read on to make sure you aren't one of those who were duped by those old wives' tales!

Myth: Honey "Cures" Allergies

Fact: Honey is made from the pollen gathered from the very same plants that causes itchy eyes. Hence, having even a small dose of honey - and consequently the pollens - excites your immune system. And there has been no clinical evidence to prove that honey alleviates allergy symptoms. But honey may soothe that cough. Honey is considered to be more effective than most cough medicines, especially for children. Honey is also considered a strict no-no for kids younger than one year as it might contain spores of bacteria that may be the cause of botulism, which a toddler's undeveloped immune system cannot handle!
