IT majors to shell out $833,000 for security cover
Bangalore: The two major IT companies, Infosys and Wipro are offered 24/7 commando security cover by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Both the companies have to shell out $416000 (Rs 2 crore) each for the CISF cover. Considering the Mumbai terror attacks last year, the management officials at Infosys and Wipro wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide proper security cover. The PM said that the institutions should be protected as they are "national assets". The CISF would guard their campuses in Electronic City and would also take care of their food and shelter requirements, according to the security plan submitted by the parliamentary force to home ministry. Three commando units comprising 50 men each will be guarding the campuses. As reported in DNA, the officers suggested that there would be electronic wiring installed around the campuses to detect intruders. Thee para-military forces should only provide back-up security and not man gates, as per the home ministry. However, the plan to get CISF security for the entire Bangalore city may not happen. "There are two basic difficulties in guarding the whole hi-tech city. Firstly, it acts like a trader's body, which is why reimbursements of bills and payment of salaries to personnel are a matter of concern. Secondly, the area is so vast that the security personnel will find it difficult to keep track of all visitors," said a Senior Home Ministry Official.
