IT firm MD arrested for forging Microsoft products
New Delhi: A Managing Director of New Delhi based software firm, a gold certified partner of Microsoft, and his associate have been arrested for cheating and forgery of Microsoft products. "Kamlesh Kumar Jha of K.K. Software Solutions in Dwarka, New Delhi, has been arrested along with his accomplice Kishan Kumar on the complaint of Microsoft Corporation (India)," said a CBI Spokesman. CBI said that Jha and Kumar were involved in high-end counterfeiting and piracy of Microsoft Software products by various means. Searches were conducted at 14 locations in Delhi, Jaipur, Dehradun and Hyderabad. Jha was abusing the complainant's 'Microsoft activation downgrade programme' which allows end customers to downgrade their Windows Vista product to Windows XP. Not only that, the accused also used to submit the product keys of Windows Vista business and ultimate version of operating systems to Microsoft after obtaining them by fraudulent means, like tempering the original products, and then requesting Microsoft for the downgrade product keys of Windows XP operating systems. CBI official said, "The accused then used to put these downgrade product keys on counterfeited software and sell them in the market as original. Thus, the accused caused the offence of criminal breach of trust, cheating, counterfeiting and offences under IT Act and Copyright Act."
