New Delhi: Software and IT-enabled services (ITES) exports from India will surpass $100 billion by 2012, according to Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran. Addressing an International information, communication and technology (ICT) summit of the Commonwealth countries, Maran said, "The software and ITES exports from India are expected to cross $100 billion by the year 2012." President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who inaugurated the event, said, "The telecom revolution in India has opened multiple windows of opportunities and the benefits of this revolution are in the process of percolating to the vast majority of our villages." The president told the attending ICT ministers, dignitaries and high commissioners from around the Commonwealth that the benefits of the growth of the ICT industry can be brought through the implementation of a bandwidth, which is "a demolisher of imbalances". The two-day seminar, being held at the Vigyan Bhavan, will have sessions on public-private partnerships for implementation and delivery, global ICT initiatives and parallel roundtables with governments, international working groups and several implementing agencies. The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 53 independent sovereign states, all of which are former colonies of Britain, except Mozambique.
