ISA to organize two-day conclave in February

BANGALORE: The Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) is the leading voice of the semiconductor industry in India. ISAs vision is to establish India as the preferred global hub for excellence in creation of semiconductor products through technology leadership.
Now ISA brings to you the Vision Summit 2006, a 2-day conclave to be held on February 8 and 9 at The Leela Palace, Bangalore featuring the who's who of the semiconductor world. Vision Summit is a platform for business analysts, thought leaders and top management of the semiconductor industry. The event features prominent speakers who will share their insights through topics, which are most relevant to the industry today.
The theme of the event is: The Triple Play of Design, Software and Manufacturing - India leads the way for a new paradigm in Semiconductors.
The semiconductor industry has seen the emergence of fabless companies from pure IDM's, a decade ago.
Creation of semiconductor products swiftly became a complex, 3 dimensional process with software emerging as the third new axis. This complexity of semiconductor applications demands a strong interplay of design and software development while manufacturing as processes continue to shrink.
India is uniquely poised to play a leading role in bringing about this paradigm shift, given its proven competence in software and semiconductor design, and most recently, the focused initiatives to develop a local semiconductor manufacturing industry. The ISA, with strong backing from the Government of India, is setting into motion the triple play paradigm and spearheading the ongoing development of the semiconductor manufacturing industry in India. The response to the event has been overwhelming from the semiconductor design industry as also the electronic manufacturing segment. We also expect a delegation from Taiwan to participate. The majority of our speakers are global leaders, which points to the need for such a forum to share ideas and lay the foundation for tomorrow. Delegates are expected from India, U.S., Taiwan, China and Singapore, said Poornima Shenoy, President, India Semiconductor Association.

The Future of the Semiconductor Industry in India:
The Indian Semiconductor Industry had a potential to grow to a 40 billion dollar industry by 2010 and have a huge impact on the Gross Domestic Product of the country, according to the Indian Semiconductor Association Vice Chairman Anand Anandkumar. The domestic market for chips in India is estimated at $800 million by the end 2005, a fraction of the global $220 billion chip pie growing at a rate of 12 to 15 percent. India ultimately needs a fabrication plant, or "fab", which would cost $3-4 billion. Chips are increasingly loaded with software, where India's $17 billion software industry has an edge. India's market for mobile phones, cable TV boxes and computers will also help as local chip makers will be better placed to service the market.
