INX Network to launch 9 regional channels this year

Mumbai: Buoyed by a successful year of operations behind it, the INX Network launched an English channel, NewsX, Thursday and announced plans for more. "By the year-end, we shall be launching nine regional channels, followed by metro news channels," Indrani Mukerjea, chairperson of INX News Pvt Ltd, told IANS over phone from Guwahati. The regional channels would focus on entertainment and music while the metro news channel would concentrate on city-based and regional news developments, she added. These would be in addition to the two Hindi entertainment channels, and one English channel launched Thursday as part of its first anniversary, Indrani said. The company had launched operations with one desk and an office assistant barely a year ago. Six months ago, it launched 9XM, a music channel targeting the youth, followed by a general entertainment channel, 9X. With the present staff strength of over 600, the company plans to induct more human resources to man the forthcoming projects, though she could not quantify the requirements. Indrani described the past one year as not only "challenging but extremely exciting," learning opportunity for her since she did not have media background, but could manage with the support of her excellent team.
