IIT Kharagpur annouces tech award in honor of alumnus

Bangalore: IIT Kharagpur has organized, an India-wide award in the name of Nina Saxena. The award is to keep up to the spirit of Dr Nina Saxena, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, who was known for her excellence in the technology space.

IIT Kharagpur has invited nominations for the entries to the Nina Saxena Excellence in Technology Award. The award is to commemorate the most deserving technologist, in India, who has done breakthrough technical work.

Remembering Nina Saxena, Professor Madhusudan Chakraborty, deputy director said that she was a truly brilliant person. He added that her stellar intellectual achievements would always be remembered. The award, he said, was set up to keep the 'Nina spirit' alive and encourage the brightest technical minds in India, to innovate for the country.

The director of IIT Khargpur will chair the award committee comprising deans and selected faculty members of the IIT and well-known alumnus. The director should receive the nominations either by post of email on or before April 30. The first award would be conferred on August 18, 2007.
