Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology - Guwahati (IIT-G) is set to host the Second International Congress on Computational Mechanics and Simulation (ICCMS-06) from Dec 8 to provide a platform for scientists, engineers and designers to exchange views and experiences.

A number of national and international delegates from academia, research and development bodies and industries would deliberate on various problems related to computational mechanics and simulation in the three-day meet, a statement said.

The conference, organised by the Indian Association for Computational Mechanics (IndACM) in collaboration with IIT-Guwahati, will have scientific sessions, special lectures, keynote addresses and plenary lectures on related issues.

This is the first time a conference on computational mechanics and simulation at the international level is being held in the northeast.

The conference would cover all areas of computational mechanics and simulation including composite structures, fracture and damage mechanics, geomechanics, micro and nanomechanics and robotics.

An exhibition of books related to the subject, hardware and software is planned during the congress. A souvenir containing abstracts of the selected papers would also be released.

Those addressing the plenary session include Liu Gui-Rong, director, Centre for Advanced Computations in Engineering Science, National University of Singapore; Shailendra Sharan, professor at School of Engineering, Laurentian University Sudbury, Ontario; and Somnath Ghosh, John B. Nordholt Professor Computational Mechanics Research Laboratory, Ohio State University.

Computational mechanics has emerged as a key area of research and application.

Problems in mechanics of solid, fluid, solid-fluid interaction and their scientific disciplines are investigated through computational mechanics and implemented in engineering design and manufacturing.

The first ICCMS congress was organised at IIT-Kanpur in 2004.
