Chennai: Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran, who has resigned from the cabinet, said Monday he was about to abolish roaming charges on mobile phones from June 3, which would have benefited about 140 million Indian mobile phone customers. "Our success first came when we launched the Re.1 plan under BSNL and I was planning to abolish roaming charges on June 3, which is the birthday of our leader Karunanidhi (Tamil Nadu chief minister)," Maran told a pres conference here. "I plead with my successor to go ahead with the plan and do it on that day," he added. Maran, who faxed his resignation to the prime minister late Sunday, is expected to meet him Monday.
