Huawei upholds broadband at ASSOCHAM global telecom summit 2009
Bangalore: At the fifth ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in India) Global Telecom Summit 2009, Huawei in coherence with the telecom industry and the government encouraged the development of 'broadband for digital democracy and inclusive growth'. In his address, Weimin Yao, Senior VP (Global), Huawei Telecommunications India made several commitments for the successful proliferation of broadband in India, including investment of more than $4 billion in the last five years in R&D to develop customized rural solutions for the Indian market and creating solutions at the right price points for the Indian rural customer, with ARPU (average revenue per user) of $2 achieved through the outdoor base stations and power efficient solutions that keep operational expenditure at lowest levels and save TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) by more than 35 percent. Additionally, alternate sources of energy with solar, wind, bio-fuels and by hybrid systems are ready to be deployed on a mass scale and contribution to bridging digital divide through e-enabled education will be made with an active proposal for sponsoring broadband connectivity to schools. A Sethuraman, Executive Director, Huawei Telecommunications India, in his panel discussion on 'building and delivering a cost effective broadband model' said, "Our telecom solutions address the key challenges for broadband proliferation faced by Indian operators. To be able to reduce the cost of ownership, Huawei is well positioned in providing its unique SingleRAN solution that enables operators to achieve full convergence of multi-mode wireless networks, including base stations, base station controllers, sites and operation and maintenance."
