New Delhi: State-owned Hindustan Latex Limited (HLL) announced a tie-up with Bharat Biotech International Limited to market two new low-cost vaccines for Hepatitis B and typhoid. Both the new vaccines - HIVAC-B and Tyfex - have been priced at nominal rates compared to the current rates of similar vaccines in the market, said M. Ayyapan, chairman and managing director of HLL. A dose of HIVAC-B would cost the consumer 60, while Tyfex would cost 80, according to company officials. HIVAC-B, a recombinant vaccine for Hepatitis B, follows a routine dosage of injections throughout a 60-month period, whereas Tyfex a highly purified Vi Capsular Polysaccharide, is new generation typhoid vaccine that needs just one prick in three years. HLL is the largest producer of contraceptives in the country with major condom brands like "Moods", "Rakshak", "Confidom" and others as well as female contraceptives like "Saheli" and others. Ayyapan said: "We are no longer a contraceptive producer company. From today we are a contraceptive and healthcare company."
