Highest Selling Cars of September 2012

Hyundai scored big with its new fluidic Elantra by selling over 700 cars as September marked another successful month for the South Korean manufacturers. Even with the crumbling market conditions, cars like i10 (8099 sales), i20 (7814 sales) and Eon (6244 sales) did well. But for models like Accent (131 sales) and Sonata (20 sales), it was a disappointing September.

Mahindra bagged the third slot, who again outplayed Tata in all areas. Bolero became the best seller for Mahindra with over 9000 sales. But watch out for XUV500 which did pretty well in the market (4603 sales) compared to cheaper Scorpio (4064 sales). On the other side, it was a troublesome month for models like Xylo (1658 sales) and for, Mahindra’s only sedan, Verito (1536 sales).

A mediocre month for Tata motors. The only models that did well was Indica and Vista (together of 7936 sales) followed by ‘the cheapest hatchback’ Nano (5491 sales). The flipside saw some terrible results. Tata’s very own MUV, Aria went deep down in its sales (just 25) and models like Indigo and Manza didn’t go pretty well (3706 sales).

For Toyota, the month of September was clearly an ‘appalling’ month. High-priced MUV’s like Fortuner and Innova dealt well (1301 and 5858 sales respectively). But when it came to compact sedans and hatchbacks, Toyota needs a lot of work. Models like Etios (2627 sales) and Liva (1813 sales) didn’t do well as expected. Even Toyota’s highly elegant sedan, Corolla (424 sales), was outdone by Hyundai’s Elantra.
