The Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation Thursday signed an agreement with U.S.-based PGS Solutions for training and placement of medical and paramedical personnel in the U.S.

CHANDIGARH: HSIDC managing director Harbakhsh Singh said: "PGS Solutions LLC, a New York based placement agency, is engaged in the placement of medical and paramedical personnel in the U.S. "The firm had a tie-up with Health South Corporation, which runs around 1,500 hospitals in the U.S., Britain, Canada and Australia with a total revenue of around $16 billion." Singh said the current requirement of nurses in the U.S. alone was pegged at 100,000. This is expected to go up to 400,000 by 2007. Avenues also exist for nurses and healthcare professionals in countries like Britain, Australia and New Zealand, he noted. The HSIDC signed another memorandum of understanding with Mepco International for training of medical and paramedical personnel to upgrade their skills in keeping with the norms required for working in the U.S., and for placement of skilled and semiskilled workers and professional personnel in the Middle East. Singh said Mepco International was a government authorised manpower placement firm specialising in training and recruitment mainly in the Middle East in the fields of petrochemicals, paramedical operations, telecommunications, engineering and constructions. He said HSIDC had been able to build a suitable database of quality candidates within a short period. "Impressed with HSIDC's success, many state governments had approached it for consultancy purposes for creating such a bureau within their states."
