HCL better brand than MNCs in commercial PC market

NEW DELHI: Gartner and IDC surveys have placed HCL Infosystems ahead of MNCs in the commercial PC segment. According to a recent IDC report, HCL shipped 46,121 commercial PC units during the Jan-Mar 03 quarter, which is significantly higher than its nearest MNC competitor. With this performance, HCL has garnered a market share of over 10 percent, and has scored a growth of 52.5 percent over sales registered in the previous quarter. The market for total desktop PC units stood at 612591 units, of which about 72 percent were commercial PCs and about 28 percent were consumer PCs. In the Total Desktop PCs, HCL led the tally with a market share of 8.9 percent (a growth of 41.7 percent over last quarter) and the nearest MNC competitor had a market share of 7.6 percent (a growth of 7.3 percent over last quarter). HCL Infosystems Ltd VP– Marketing George Paul said, 'It is a matter of great pride for us that the expertise of an Indian company is recognized and given preference over multi national companies. Our progress in the segment has been steady and we are setting in place an aggressive marketing strategy to sustain the numero uno position in the segment.' 'As part of our strategy to sustain the number one slot, we plan to introduce new products that have been designed bearing the customer needs in mind. We hold numerous user meets across the country every year to get customer feedback and these new launches are a result of this painstaking, yet rewarding exercise,' added Paul.
