H1-B Visa Reforms, A Dreadful Pain to Indian IT Companies

What might be the motivation behind the big move?

One of the prime reasons for Indian companies to be anxious are the issues that might come up within the Immigration bill. Drafted by a group of eight senior senators, the bill might mandate a higher wage level for employees on H1-B visas, making it much harder for Indian companies to obtain them and send people on assignments.

India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) already thrashed the U.S. move, to be a deliberate attack on the Indian IT.

"The language appears to be clearly discriminatory in nature, specifically targeted at Indian IT companies and putting them at a competitive disadvantage against their US-based competitors," said Som Mittal, president of Nasscom, quotes from TOI.

NASSCOM represents $108 billion ( 5.9 lakh crore) of the stupendous Indian IT industry, whereas the exported software industry is worth $45 billion.

As per the current situation, visa fees have doubled and the U.S are already relentlessly denying visas for Indian workers seeking short-term posting within their country.
