Bangalore: The Gujarat IT sector is regaining momentum after a lull of nearly six months. The sector is creating more jobs for the youth, especially in the BPO segment. Nirav Shah, President Gujarat Electronics and Software Industries Association (GESIA) said, "BPO's are doing extremely well in Gujarat since they are largely focused on the telecom sector, which is doing very well at present." BPOs in Gujarat are expected to hire around 1500 to 2000 people during this financial year, over and above the recruitment of over 1000 individuals in the last few months. A top IT official said, "Established IT giants are now looking for expansion in Gujarat. Oil and Petroleum sector companies from the Middle East are planning to open their back office processing units by September this year in the upcoming SEZs here." Over a dozen IT/ITeS Special Economic Zones (SEZ) have been sanctioned in Gujarat. Out of these, K Raheja SEZ is expected to start operations from first quarter of 2010, followed by DLF SEZ, industry sources say. "IT companies have already started coming to us, and soon they shall shortlist the floor space," said Kotak, Region Head, K Raheja.
