New Delhi: The central government plans to further rationalise the mega power policy to encourage power generation capacity addition, said union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde here on Monday.

"The proposal is aimed at encouraging power generation capacity addition by further rationalising the existing policy," Shinde told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

"Key fiscal sops like duty exemption on import of capital equipment are provided by the government under the policy," he said.

"The government envisaged to add 78,577 MW in the 11th Five-Year Plan," the minister said.
