San Francisco:  Google has deserted the mission to make cheap renewable energy, which was begun in 2007 focusing on solar power technology. Instead of, it would continue to create “cleaner, more efficient energy”, as well as to obtain renewable energy for its data centers as noted in its blog post. Google also said that it has stopped seven of their projects counting Renewable Energy with Knol, also a Google project that aims to include user-written articles on a range of topics, reports Reuters.

"To recap, we're in the process of shutting down a number of products which haven't had the impact we'd hoped for, integrating others as features into our broader product efforts, and ending several which have shown us a different path forward," wrote Google Senior Vice President of Operations Urs Holzle in the blog post.

Google also plans to signify the third so-called “spring cleaning” message that has made by Google Co-Founder Page who took the initiative in April on its corporate blog. Other projects included in “spring cleaning” were Google Knol, Google search timeline, Google Gear, Google Friend Connect, Google Bookmarks Lists and Google Wave.

Drastic change has come as google is facing hard competition in the era of mobile computing and social networking from Apple and Facebook. Google said its email and calendar applications will no longer support Gears technology which allows some online files to be used offline. As an alternative, it is now working to make offline capabilities into HTML5 technology.
