German companies seeking Indian biotech partners

BANGALORE: A seven-member German delegation is scouting for partnership with Indian biotech industry and research units in the fields of bio-informatics, agri and pharma biotechnology, drug discovery and genomics. The team is here to participate in the Bangalore Bio Meet. “We are interested in understanding the research and industry potential of Indian biotechnology sector , particularly regenerative medicine. We would also like to make contact with research institutes and firms involved in isolation, preparation and therapeutic applications of cells, tissues and organs,” said Dr Frank Emerich ,director, Fraunhofer Institute of Clinical Immunology and transfusions medicine, Germany. In fact, Biobase from Wolfenbuttel and Institut fur Pharmazie, Pharmazeutische Biologie from Mainz, are seeking partners in bio-informatics and agri and pharma sectors . Deutsche Messe AG from Hannover is interested in meeting companies wanting to access the German market. These firms are looking for companies that offer contract research services in biotechnology. In addition, they are keen to tie up with Indian firms, which are looking for collaborative, risk sharing and licencing agreements with European firms. The presence of biotech companies like the Fraunhofer Foundation, MWG and Biobase in the delegation, underlines the strong interest which Germany Is showing in India’s biotech sector.
