MUMBAI: Fujitsu Consulting plans to invest between $5 million and $10 million to expand Rapidigm Inc's India facilities to allow for increased global offshoring to the country. This will also entail the doubling of Rapidigm's headcount over the next 12 months. Fujitsu Consulting, a IT services provider, recently gained a foothold in India when it agreed in February to buy Rapidigm which has facilities across India and North America. The consideration for the acquisition was not disclosed. Fujitsu Consulting’s Senior Vice-President, R J Smith said, “Rapidigm is strategically important to Fujitsu and will continue to be in the future, considering that we are looking at 50 percent of revenues from the offshore market in the next five years.” The offshoring capabilities available through Rapidigm were one of the major considerations in making the acquisition, Smith said. “There is tremendous pent-up demand from Fujistu customers for offshoring,” he added. Rapidigm also helps Fujitsu gain market coverage in specialized areas such as ERP (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft), and business intelligence, and also gain market coverage in North America. Fujitsu will start taking offshore its own internal systems. To start with, Rapidigm's headcount in India, currently at 800, will be doubled or even tripled in a couple of year's time. The company is also considering an additional center in Chennai. It is present in Delhi, Pune and Noida and Hyderabad.
