MUMBAI: The Freescale SemiconductorÂ’s MXC91321 3G processor was awarded the Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice Award for Best Applications Processor for 2005.

This is a significant achievement for the Freescale India Design Center headquartered at Noida, which has led the development of the MXC architecture since 2004.

The MXC91321 processor is the first to integrate a 3G single core modem with applications processor functionality. The chip is the heart of the MXC300-30 platform, which provides a comprehensive UMTS/HSDPA solution including integrated baseband and applications processor, RF transceiver, power amplifier and power management IC.

Commenting on this success, Freescale India Development center’s Country Manager and Director, Ganesh Guruswamy said, “We are delighted to be a part of Freescale's global team that is revolutionizing design of phone platforms. The India team specifically led the development of the baseband, design specification and validation for the MXC architecture and will continue to work on designs that transform the way we use technology in the coming years.”

This MXC processor reduces power consumption by more than 40 percent compared to previous offerings, making it the most advanced processor in the industry for power and speed combined.

"Freescale is honored to receive one of the industry's highest recognitions from Microprocessor Report for the MXC 3G processor, which was a collaborative development effort between Motorola and Freescale," said Franz Fink Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Freescale's Wireless and Mobile Systems Group.

"With 65nm samples of our MXC EDGE processor, we are extending our lead in delivering comprehensive solutions that remove barriers and reduce the risk for handset manufacturers,” he added.
