NEW DELHI: A framework agreement on economic cooperation between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) aims to expand and liberalise trade and investment relations between the two sides, the Rajya Sabha was told.

Discussions were held with a GCC delegation in New Delhi last month during which both sides agreed to continue the process of dialogue in the context of the provisions of the agreement, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath told the upper house of parliament.

As a follow up of the signing of the agreement, which was signed in August, research institutions have been entrusted with conducting studies on various aspects of the free trade agreement, Kamal Nath added.
