Bangalore: Force10 Networks today introduced the S2410 data center switch in the Indian market. The new technology combines the industry’s highest 10 Gigabit Ethernet density and lowest switching latency to make Ethernet an ideal technology for high performance cluster interconnects and data centers.

”Force10 has set the industry standard for 10 Gigabit Ethernet density and performance. The extremely low latency of the S2410 provides Indian IT managers with the tools to simply and cost effectively design their networks, allowing them, for the first time, to use Ethernet for latency sensitive applications virtualization and network attached storage," said Sachi Sambandan, vice president of engineering at Force10 Networks. “

At 300 nanoseconds, the Force10 S2410 delivers the industry’s lowest Ethernet switching latency and places 10 Gigabit Ethernet on par with other cluster interconnect solutions, eliminating the need to integrate Infiniband and other proprietary solutions into the network. By bringing ultra low switching latency to Ethernet, it would allow Indian IT managers to capture the computing benefits of high performance cluster architectures using a familiar and easy to manage technology, simplifying management and reducing operational costs.

Combining 24 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports with switching latency of 300 nanoseconds in a fixed configuration, one rack unit platform, the Force10 S2410 is purpose built for demanding Indian data center environments. As an expansion of the Force10 S-Series, the S2410 complements the Force10 S50 and TeraScale E-Series to deliver flexible, high performance end-to-end data center solutions, the company claims it fundamentally alter the economics of owning and operating a network.

To further expand its product portfolio, Force10 is also building out its Chennai-based research and development center to strategically support the development of advanced switching, routing and security products. With more than 90 employees based in Chennai, more than double last year, Force10 is able to more rapidly and flexibly respond to customers’ evolving needs. Nearly 90 percent of employees in Force10’s Chennai development center are engineers that are focused on developing and testing software and hardware for the Force10 S-Series family of access switches as well as the P-Series family of security appliances.

Chennai is also home to Force10’s Asia Pacific technical assistance center (TAC) that serves customers throughout the region, including in Korea, China, Japan and Australia. With a growing number of global deployments, the Chennai TAC is critical to delivering service and support in real time.
