In India, back in 70’s and 80’s if any anyone used to own a telephone or a car then they were seen as “well-heeled”(rich man) and if by chance they owned a gas connection with a refrigerator they were considered as “kings”(very wealthy). The point here is that there were very few rich people in India who owned some of these amenities and seeing them people started aiming high and look out for buying branded stuffs even for basic amenity they looked out for global supply chains and that is when luxury got initiated in India.
