Economy grows 8.1% in first quarter

NEW DELHI: Backed by a solid growth in the industry and services sector, the economy grew by 8.1 percent during first quarter of this fiscal from 7.6 percent same fiscal last year.

According to the figures released by the Central Statistical Organization, the farm sector saw a negative growth of just 2 percent during April-June 2005-06 against 3.8 percent last year.

Manufacturing sector grew by an impressive 11.3 percent during first three months of 2005-06, compared to 7.9 percent during the year ago period. Most the services grew by over 8 per cent during the period.
