SHIMLA:A top Dutch power firm wants to invest $1 billion in the hydro-power sector in Himachal Pradesh and tap the huge hydel reserve in the pristine Himalayan state. "Brakel Corporation (of Holland) is keen to take up a 1,000-MW project under the supervision of hydel power companies from Europe and the US," said Dean Gesterkamp, director of the firm, after meeting Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. "Of course, we would be keen in equity participation in these hydel projects," he said. "The state government welcomes investment in the hydel power sector so that its potential can be exploited soon," said Singh. "Several international companies have approached the state with investment proposals for the tourism and industrial sectors also," Singh said.
