Bangalore: The overall time spent by consumers with online media has stabilized. But, the engagement has deepened, as evidenced by the widespread adoption of activities like social networking. A market research by Forrester, called "Consumer Behaviour Online: A 2009 Deep Dive" reveals that the amount of time people spend online has remained at 12 hours per week, contrary to the trend from 2004 to 2007, when internet use grew significantly.

Forrester Analyst, Jackie Anderson explains, "Web users are becoming savvier and are better multi-taskers. Many know exactly where they want to go when they log in." According to the report, broadband adoption grew only six percent. Majority of households with internet run broadband and more than 50 percent of people have been using the web for at least 10 years.

Forrester collected responses from 40,000 Americans in January and February before coming up with the report. The trend of watching TV has however not declined despite the option of streaming favourite shows online. In fact, while 25 percent of people online watch full-length TV shows on the internet, those same people maintain at least 13 hours per week of TV.

But, one trend that has grown since last year is social networking. Although only one third of online users are members of a social network, that's a 15 percent increase from 2007.
