Chennai: German international trade fair organizer Deutsche Messe AG has tied up with the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturer's Association (IMTMA) to set up a trade fair center in Bangalore. This is part of Deutsche’s plans to set up a subsidiary in India. The center in question gas been wholly funded by IMTMA for the time being, with Deutsche Messe chipping in with the technical inputs, namely in designing, maintaining and organizing international fairs. The company though has plans of taking a stake in the project at a later date and eventually making it a subsidiary. "We are open to picking up stake in this project in future. As of now we will market this center globally and in future conduct Asia-centric trade fairs here," according to Stephan Ph. Kuhne, Member of the Board, Deutsche Messe AG. The Bangalore center will house seven halls and is spread over an area of 40,000 sq m. Included in that are four conference centers of over 5,600 sq m each. The center will host two shows next year on industrial automation and logistics. Besides targeting the silicon valley of India, Deutsche Messe is also looking at co-hosting trade fairs in the emergent face of the IT industry-Chennai. This is especially owing to the large presence of automobile and other industries near the city, said Kuhne. Apart from that, Deutsche Messe is also co-organizing a six-day machine tools and metal works trade fair, EMO Hannover starting September 17, 2007. Said Helmut von Monschaw, Executive Director, German Machine Tool Builder's Association (VDW), co-organizer of the event, “The global machine tool market is worth 45 billion and is poised to grow by 12 per cent next year. EMO will use this growth to showcase technology related to new machining processes, integration of diagnostic systems and new methods of design.”
