Dell bug reduces CPU performance by half
Bangalore: There have been many reports by users of Dell Latitude E6500 and E6400 notebooks of reduced performance of their CPUs. The performance of these Intel CPUs reduces from 2.2GHz to just 1GHz. The problem is said to be triggered by any task that requires the CPU to perform intensively, including playing videos, according to Electronista. One disgruntled owner even went on to write and publish a 59-page report (PDF) on the issue titled "Throttlegate" after being banned from the official Dell forums for discussing the problem. Administrators of the forum said this was done for revealing "non-public information." Dell has not responded to the issue, though many owners are expecting a recall of the faulty notebook PCs.
