BANGALORE: D-Link India Ltd, the networking and communications major, announced the launch of its locally designed and developed networking and communications products. These routers and security firewalls, based on Intel Xscale® technology are designed in D-Link India’s Software and R&D centre in Bangalore This is the first major launch for D-Link India’s R&D division since its increased focus towards designing and developing products for the Company’s India needs. The Company’s R&D division initially started with project based software development for the parent Company and third parties. For the last one year, it has concentrated on own IPR development. The division primarily works in the technology areas of DSP, VoIP, Protocol Programming and Embedded Systems. The Division’s previous success was the modem based VoIP Phone – DPH-70 – designed specifically for the Indian market to make cost effective ISD calls. This product did extremely well in the export market. Due to infrastructure and set-up strength, D-Link India has been working closely with Intel on a number of technology platforms. In the development of these Routers and Security Firewalls, Intel has offered full assistance in designing and development besides offering its Intel IXP425 network processor. The Companies have been working together with the objective of developing affordable networking and communications solutions for the Indian market. "D-Link India Ltd is among the very few Indian IT companies involved in designing and developing its own products besides manufacturing, marketing, distributing and supporting its products" said Mr. K.R. Naik, Chairman & Managing Director, D-Link India Ltd. He added, "We are very proud that our investments in product development are bearing fruit and we are looking at achieving greater profitability and returns on the commercial success of these products. We are planning to invest more in R&D and enter into development of high end networking products." Amar Babu, Director, Sales & Marketing at Intel said, "We are happy to be part of D-Link’s R&D success and we are looking forward to working closely in the future with D-Link towards building affordable technology solutions for the Indian market. We at Intel are constantly looking at ways to make better and affordable use of technology and associating with D-Link was a natural extension of this thought." Capt J.V. Avadhanulu, Director – Software Technology, D-Link India Ltd said, "We evaluated several Network Processors at the beginning of the project and chose Intel's Xscale® because of better features and performance. The successful development of the router and security products was made possible by the outstanding support from Intel. The successful development and release of these two products is a major milestone in the goals to develop core R&D competencies and establish win-win partnerships to address the fast growing Indian networking market." D-Link is looking at primarily targeting these Routers and Security Firewalls at the SOHO and SMB segments. In the past couple of years the SMB segment has emerged as the most happening segment in the Indian networking space and has been growing at a rate of over 20% (y-o-y). With the launch of these Routers and Firewalls, D-Link has increased its product offering in the fast growing markets of Routers and Security and is looking at capturing greater market-share due to these locally developed products offering greater cost advantage. D-Link Router DRO-100i uses the powerful Intel IXP-425 network processor @533MHz and provides routing, quality of service, firewall and VPN functions and offers a two channel VOIP as an optional plug-in. It connects to the WAN using the popular V.35 interface and to the LAN with 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. A built-in ISDN interface provides back-up to the WAN. D-Link’s scalable Security Appliance platform is based on Intel Xscale® architecture and uses iGateway Software from Intoto. D-Link and Intoto, a leading US-based security platform software company, worked closely to develop DFW-100i, the first product in this family. DFW-100i is a cost effective, high performance Firewall plus VPN solution targeted at the banking and financial sector as well as SME.
