Congnizant ramps up Pune center

PUNE :Cognizant Technology is planning to expand its Pune center by the first quarter of 2009. The company acquiring 30 acres of land in the IT SEZ at Hinjewadi Phase III. "All the future growth of facility will be in IT SEZs either our own or leased facilities," said R Chandrasekaran, President and MD, Cognizant. The Pune center, currently the second largest facility, is among the fastest growing centers for Cognizant where it is increasing headcount from 4,500 to 6,500 by the end of December 2007. It is focused on financial services and life sciences & health care and the horizontals of testing and ERP. "About 75 percent of our global workforce is in India across Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Coimbatore and most recently Kochi. Currently Chennai is the largest center with 16,500 people but we do not want to put all our eggs in one basket. So much of the growth in the future will be in Pune," Chandrasekaran said. Presently, Cognizant is leasing out a 1,80,000 sq ft facility of ISH InfoTech near to the existing facility of Cognizant at Hinjewadi Phase I that will have a capacity to house 1,600 professionals. The 2007 forecast for revenues is $2.040 and needs a net addition of 17,200 people to take its global headcount to 56,000.
