Clinton makes light of losing U.S. presidential race
New Delhi: "You can say that to me," said Hillary Clinton, smiling broadly while replying to a student's query on whether she had been "deprived" of the U.S. presidential post because of her gender. But the next moment, the U.S. Secretary of State, on a more serious note, said: "I am very grateful of the experiences that I have had. When I was the president of the college government, I could have never imagined that all this would happen in my unpredictable life. But I don't look back, I am somebody who always gets up and looks forward." "I am fuelled by my commitment to making sure that we eradicate all the remaining vestiges of discrimination toward women," former first lady of the US said during an event in Delhi university here Monday. Clinton was replying to a question by former Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) president Ragini Nayak who asked Clinton whether she was "deprived" of the presidential post because of her gender. Clinton, who belongs to the Democratic party, lost to Barack Obama in the presidential nomination race. Outlining the importance of women's empowerment, Clinton said during her meeting with the women of the SEWA NGO in Mumbai Saturday she met their president whom she congratulated, saying, "You got to become the president and I didn't. So, I congratulate you!".
